13th annual Ice Savours tonight
The Martha’s Vineyard Arena’s annual fundraiser, Ice Savours, is coming up this Thursday, August 15. The benefit party for the ice arena is at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs from 6 to 8:30 pm, and includes wine and hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, and more. Proceeds will benefit the Raise the Roof campaign: The arena’s roof is more than 30 years old and in need of repair, according to a press release. Admission is $100.
Fireworks Friday
One of the highlights of a Vineyard summer, the Oak Bluffs fireworks, is upon us this Friday, August 16 (August 17 is the rain date). While the fireworks begin at approximately 9 pm, the Vineyard Haven Band performs in the Ocean Park gazebo starting at 8 pm.
It is best to plan for delays in travel time as Oak Bluffs Police plan to tighten security. Added measures will include limited access points, searches of backpacks, coolers and bags, strict traffic and parking bans, and more police officers. Parking is available at Sunset Park off New York Avenue and Waban Park off Sea View Avenue.
Fair fun
The 152nd Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society’s Livestock Show and Fair is this Thursday through Sunday, August 15–18. The schedule is packed for the four-day event, which runs daily from 10 am to 11 pm (Fair closes at 7 pm on Sunday).
