A single car accident that involved a utility pole on South Road in Chilmark caused a brief power outage about 10 pm, Sunday night.
Simeon Paresky, 26, of Oak Bluffs was driving down Island when he was distracted by a passenger and lost control of his Ford Expedition SUV, according to Chilmark police. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole near Homestead Way.
Police received the first call about the accident at 10:02 pm. According to police, the vehicle was heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene. Police cited Mr. Paresky for a marked lanes violation.
Power was restored to the area in about two hours.
