I certainly was disillusioned and disappointed Tuesday night when the Tisbury board of selectmen refused to recognize our group and our simple questions about the size and impact of the proposed Stop & Shop.

Two weeks ago, we were told, justifiably, that they needed additional time to study our concerns, but they would revisit them Tuesday night. We assumed that recent, additional submissions, as well as the letter of two weeks ago was sufficient confirmation of our listing on that night’s agenda. We were brought up very short when we discovered the chairman Jeff Kristal had opted to withdraw us that day from their agenda, with neither notification nor the courtesy of telling us before we waited for over an hour to have our concerns addressed. At that point, he waived all opportunities to speak and led the selectmen into executive session.

If our town is indeed “democratic,” it hardly seems just to summarily dismiss an agenda item with virtually no warning or explanation, no matter what the opinion of the chairman.
