The Vineyard varsity softball team continued to struggle against unforgiving Eastern Athletic Conference competition in a 16-0 loss to Coyle Cassidy Tuesday in Taunton.

Vineyard pitcher Sam Robinson conceded only four earned runs but the Warriors’ Marissa Scott held the Vineyard bats in check. Cana Courtney singled in the first and Emily Turney doubled in the third for the Vineyarders, who are now 4-8 on the year.

Monday in Oak Bluffs, the girls romped to an 18-6 non-league victory over Madison Park of Boston. Emily Turney belted a two-run homer and added a triple, going 3 for 3 on the day. Shelby Lavin was 3 for 4, and Mariah Duarte went 2 for 4.

Jessica Sonia closed out the five-inning, mercy-shortened game by driving in the final run with her first hit of the season.
