The Vineyard varsity girls lacrosse team lost two tough games last week.

Tuesday, the Vineyarders traveled to Fairhaven, trying to complete the season sweep over the Blue Devils. Needing to win to clinch a post-season bid, the hosts played their best game of the season. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7-3 halftime lead. The Vineyarders owned the second half but lost 11-10.

Team scoring leader Lee Hayman notched three goals and added two assists. Zoe Listro scored three goals. Molly Houghton had a goal and an assist. Charlotte McCarron assisted once. Midfielder Aubrey Ashmun was strong on the draw and led the Vineyard in transition from offense to defense. Katrina Lakis, Olivia Ogden, K.C. Wallace, Emma Yuen, and Alex Clark were defensive standouts. Goalie Sam Hargy had eight saves.

The girls lost to West Bridgewater, 15-11, on Friday. Again, the Vineyarders rallied in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals, but it was not enough.

Sophomore Belle Dinning had her best game of the season coming up with two big goals and a key assist. Center Emily DeBettencourt was stellar with the center draw and totaled two goals and two assists. Lee Hayman and Charlotte McCarron each had two goals and an assist, while Issy Smith scored twice. Molly Houghton had a strong game in the midfield and scored a goal with two key assists. Zoe Listro added a goal and Shannon Morris had two assists. Sam Hargy had 9 saves.

The team ended the season Wednesday, May 21, at Coyle Cassidy in Taunton.
