Cubs 6, Cardinals 3

The Cubs defeated the Cardinals, 6-3, Tuesday evening at Veira with solid pitching, excellent defense, and balanced hitting. Andrew Marchand and Summer Cardoza combined on a four-hitter while allowing only two base on balls. Pete Gillis led the offense with three hits and Mighty Max Potter had an RBI double to the gap. Rookie Jonathan Norton ripped a single and made several solid defensive plays.

For the Cards, Jackie Pizzano, Hunter Meader, and Leo Neville kept them in the game with effective pitching. Lowan Thigith carried the big stick, blasting a ball off the electrical wires in right field for an RBI ground-rule double.

Monday May 19

Pirates 6, Tigers 0

Harold Lawry pitched a one-hitter as the Bucs tamed the Tigers, 6-0, Monday night.

Kenny Hatt pitched four strong innings for the Tigers. Aiden Smith made

some keys plays at shortstop for the Tigers. Luke Nivalas had two base hits, while

Harold Lawry doubled twice to pace the Bucs. Sam Seidel-Aldrich had his first hit in the Majors, lining a single to right in the third inning.

Saturday, May 17

Cubs 2, Red Sox 1

Red Sox 10, Cubs 0

The Cubbies handed the Red Sox their first loss of the season in the opening game of a Saturday twinbill. The Cubs prevailed, 2-1, behind the combined one hit pitching of Chris Ferry and Keaton Aliberti. Aliberti scored the Cubs’ first run in the first on a triple and a wild pitch. Andrew Marchand scored the second run on a bases-loaded walk in the second. The Sox closed the gap to 2-1 in the third when Peter Burke scored on Jeremy Regan’s ground out to third. Sox reliever Jake Howell pitched the final three for the Sox, allowing one base runner.

The Sox bounced back with a big win in game two. Sox pitcher Jared Regan threw his second consecutive perfect game, striking out nine Cubs. Jeremy Regan and Jake Howell combined on several key defensive plays in helping stall the Cub bats.

Mike O’Brien pitched two and two thirds innings of solid relief. Nine-year-old Jonathan Norton worked tirelessly behind the plate to hold Sox runners at bay.

Tigers 14, Athletics 5

The Tigers posted a big win over the A’s. Owen Metell had his first Majors hit, scoring three runs. Tigers veteran Ryan Scanlon broke the game open with a three-run homer. Richie Barlett started and pitched four innings. He also went 4 for 4 at the plate. Miles Sidoti pitched two shutout innings and reached base four times. Nate Porterfield had a multi-hit game for the A’s.

All-Star game Sunday

The annual Little League all-star games are Sunday at Veira Park in Oak Bluffs. The 12-year-old game begins at 11:30 am, followed by the Minor League game at 1:30 pm.
