On Wednesday, July 16, there will be a public input meeting for the final design of the Niantic Park restoration. The meeting will begin at 6 pm at the Oak Bluffs Council on Aging. Amy Billings, chairman of the Oak Bluffs parks department, said the proposed design will be posted on the town website before the meeting.
At special town meeting in November, voters approved spending $400,000 in Community Preservation Act funds to restore Niantic Park, and then authorized the town to borrow another $350,000 to complete the project. The proposed renovation will include new basketball courts, new playground equipment, new fencing and lighting, additional sidewalks and parking, and new public bathrooms that accommodate families with children and the disabled.
