To the Editor:

I would like to let anyone know, who might like to join our quilt group, that we are no longer meeting at the Council on Aging, and have not been, since February of this year.

Due to the kindness of Father Nagle, we are meeting at the Good Shepherd Parish Center.

It is located at the corner of School Street and Pacific Avenue. We meet Mondays and Fridays from 1 to 3 pm.

Enter by way of the long ramp. We are in the first room on the right. It is air-conditioned and we will have water, coffee, cocoa and tea available.

We are back to our summer numbers of 15, and there is always room for newcomers. If you aren’t a quilter but would like to learn, we have lots of help available. After all, we have been meeting since 1997, and have progressed very nicely.

We formerly made quilts (at least 18), and raffled them to benefit fuel and medical assistance for Island residents. We served the needs of all towns.

Recently, we donated a quilt to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a quilt to the Windemere Auction, and a quilt to the Edgartown Animal Shelter. They sold them at their fundraising auctions.

If anyone would like a quilt to sell or raffle for your charity, please contact Glenna Barkan at 508-693-8586. We could even help you raffle it, by selling chances. We will donate children’s quilts to the Red Stocking Fund, as we do every Christmas. Over seven years, we have donated $34,000 to help our fellow-islanders.
