The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Martha’s Vineyard Shark, 1-0, to claim the 2014 FCBL championship last Thursday. In a game where the number of errors (6) almost surpassed the total number of hits (7), pitching was the focal point, according to an account posted by the Sharks.
Max Slade (UConn) took the loss for the Sharks, while Josh Desai (Suffolk) picked up the win after pitching shutout ball until Sean Gustin (Holy Cross) came in for the save. With the win, Worcester claimed their first FCBL title in their first year in the league.
Both teams struggled to get any runners across the board. Neither were really able to string together enough hits to score. Worcester scored the game’s only run in the 5th inning, capitalizing on an untimely Sharks error. Unable to muster a hit for the rest of the game, the Sharks were forced to settle for league runner-up following their 2013 FCBL championship.
The Sharks organization thanked all of the players, coaches, and families for their contributions to another successful summer.
