In all of my years in education, there has always been an unspoken excitement that accompanies the start of every school year. This year brings an unmatched positive climate that is extremely refreshing. The staff, the community, central office personnel, and school committee members have all been welcoming, supportive, and excited about the changes for the upcoming year.

There is a strong ethos of professionalism and high expectations that has been established by our existing staff. Our goal is to effectively blend the new staff into the positive culture and productive climate. Our student body will be close to 680 students and our team looks forward to meeting and working with all of them.

Our new vocational director, Ty Hobbs, brings years of experience in Career Technical Education (CTE). Together, we will strive to ensure that the vocational programs reflect the community’s needs. Our new assistant principal, Elliott Bennett, is a well-respected staff member who will provide us with a deep insight into supporting the staff, students, and academic programs. Sergeant Mike Marchand, the new School Resource Officer (SRO), joins the MVRHS staff this year and is an excellent choice by the community. Nancy Dugan is our new director of Special Education and she has worked diligently since her arrival ensuring that the program is cohesive, aligned to IDEA, and truly meets the needs of the students.

We look forward to working together as a school community for the greater community. MVRHS will again reflect a caring commitment to academic achievement, vocational education, participation in athletics and artistic expression, and character development.

Gil Traverso started his new job as principal at MVRHS on August 1. Prior to arriving on the Vineyard he was principal of the Roger L. Putnam Vocational Technical Academy in Springfield.
