On Saturday, the Martha’s Vineyard cross-country team participated in the Bob McIntyre Twilight Cross-Country Meet at the Barnstable Fairgrounds. The team was split so runners could compete individually with their grade level, which is an unusual format for race season.
With 3,200 athletes from across Massachusetts, the Vineyarders placed respectfully. Sophomore Patrick Best placed highest in his age, finishing 14th among sophomore boys after completing a 5K with a time of 17:35. Aivares Gedvilas followed close behind, finishing 23rd. The standout varsity performers for the boys included Nate D’Angelo, who finished 49th in his age group; for the girls, Julia Neville and Sabrina Reppert finished 26th and 28th, finishing .01 seconds apart with times of 12:12 and 12:13, respectively.
