This past Sunday, the Martha’s Vineyard 7th grade girls travel basketball team played the second-best team in the league, Dartmouth, in Dartmouth. Despite a great back-and-forth game, the Vineyarders lost by 2 points, 31-29. Devin Hill led the Vineyard squad with 14 points, and Sasha Lakis added 8 points and even more blocked shots.
The Vineyarders next played the best team in the league, Barnstable, whom they previously lost to by 22 points earlier in the season. Martha’s Vineyard played much improved basketball this time around, keeping the game close and pressuring Barnstable. They could not keep that momentum, though, and ultimately fell to the Red Raiders 41-34. Devin Hill gave her all to keep the Vineyard in the game, contributing 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Bella Airas added 5 points, and Delilah Morais had 4 points.
The girls take on Rochester at home on Saturday at 2pm at the Oak Bluffs School.
