The Martha’s Vineyard junior high boys travel basketball team improved their Cape Cod Youth Basketball League record to 7-2 (13-2 overall) after a scrappy overtime victory, 66-64, in Falmouth on Saturday. The Vineyard jumped out to an early 20-point lead, only to watch Falmouth’s six-foot, two-inch center lead the comeback with 36 points. Not to be outdone, the Vineyard’s Dylan Dyke dominated both ends of the court, scoring 45 points.

The Vineyard then traveled to Wareham, where the boys found themselves overmatched by a team that had been defeated by Falmouth just last week. Although Wareham’s physical game plan resulted in 28 free throw attempts by the Vineyard, the combination of 21 missed attempts and 12 Wareham 3-pointers proved to be the difference in the 72-46 loss. The Vineyard was led by Dylan Dyke and Lukah Viera, who scored 16 and 9 points, respectively. Jared Regan also had 8.
