To the Editor:

On Valentine’s Day, my son and I decided to stop at Maggie’s Salon on Beach Road, Vineyard Haven, hoping my lovely daughter Maggie would still be there cashing out, as it was after normal business hours on a Saturday. As we entered the salon, I realized all the lights were on, and the salon was full of happy, smiling children — especially young girls — mothers, teachers, and ladies bustling about. It seemed like the warmest, loving, fun time — everyone was smiling! I felt wonderful as I saw all the activity. The stylists were busy happily cutting, washing, and styling newly cut hair.

I had no idea what had prompted this beautiful scene. Maggie explained that every year on Valentine’s Day, her salon did “Locks of Love” with the Vineyard Haven School. “Locks of Love” is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to children who suffer hair loss from any diagnosis. What a wonderful Valentine’s Day adventure and donation. The warm, loving scene is one I will never forget. Thank you all.
