To the Editor:
This snowy, cold winter has been a trial for most of us. Some of us, who don’t dare walk on icy, slippery terrain, have been housebound for weeks.
But there are unsung heroes out there, braving the elements in difficult conditions.
First, the Meals on Wheels people: They seldom close shop because of the weather. A case in point is a cheerful, smiling young lady from Vermont. Her name is Jody, and on the very worst day she appeared, with a big smile on her face, carrying a basket of food — and she was on snowshoes!
Also, the Vineyard Committee on Hunger and the Homeless: On the coldest of nights, they are out searching, trying to find homeless people who are living in the woods.
Fortunately, the Quilt Fund for Fuel and Medical Assistance is still receiving donations, and we were able to send a donation to Betty Burton at the Vineyard Council on Aging. We plan to send more, as I receive more. People know that our Quilt Fund helps where help is desperately needed, and they happily put their trust in me and our work.
We are still making quilts — gave a half-dozen to Red Stocking, and they were exuberantly received by the folks in charge there.
We are meeting on Monday afternoons at my home. We welcome anyone. Call 508-693-8586 for directions. We have two raffle quilts in the works, too, as well as items for the Windemere auction. And we have a really good time.
