Looking to get your tonsils out? Or have a bunion lanced, or maybe some open-heart surgery? You won’t find that at the 20th annual health fair at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Saturday. But you can get your cholesterol screened, and your skin (for cancer) too; have your eyes, ears, blood pressure, and body mass index assessed, and learn about the importance of childhood immunizations.
Check out the Baby-friendly initiative, and learn about the profound benefits of breastfeeding. And bring your unwanted controlled substance drugs (unused cough syrup or pain medications, for example); there’s a “controlled substance dropbox” where you can dispose of them safely, and legally.
And it’s all free.
Since 1996, the hospital’s been hosting a health fair, with increased practitioner participation each year. Last year, more than 200 people were seen by close to 40 practitioners.
Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Health Fair: Saturday, March 14, 8 am to noon; admission is free, and there are “goodies and giveaways.” For schedule and information, visit mvhospital.com/healthfair.
