Martha’s Vineyard Youth Hockey’s youngest players had their first opportunity to participate in tournament play last weekend at the Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena in the 27th annual Red Kennedy Tournament.

The Travel Mites faced off with the Tri-County Saints (Mansfield), the Minuteman Lady Flames (Marlborough), and the Greater Providence Bears in full-ice action. The Vineyard team’s tenacious play carried them into the championship game Sunday morning. In the final, MV persevered throughout, but lost to Tri-County 3-2 in sudden-death overtime.

Meanwhile, the Vineyard’s four House Mite teams played fast-paced and spirited cross-ice games throughout the weekend. Team Purple ultimately came out victorious.
