Two weeks ago, we asked you to guess how long it would take the monster snow pile at the Triangle to melt. We said we’d give a prize to the person who was closest to guessing the day (and time, if it was a tiebreaker).
We’ve had people asking how we’re going to know when that bit of snow turns to water and runs off to the Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road. Good question!
We are sending photographers Ralph Stewart and Michael Cummo over regularly to document the progress. We entertained the idea of installing another webcam there, trained on the diminishing pile. But then we thought: That would be as entertaining as watching paint dry. Or snow melt. So just be assured, we are keeping a close eye on it, and when it’s getting close, we’ll figure something out.
So far, we have gotten a pile of responses, which range from the earliest, April 10, to the latest, May 17.
As you can see from the photos above, the pile has gotten a lot smaller, but is now, in the words of Michael Cummo, “a jankety mess,” hardened with dirt, and looks rather … unmeltable.
Either way, we’re cutting off voting as of Friday, April 10, at midnight. So get your votes in! Either comment here, or send your guess to onisland@mvtimes.com.
