To the Editor:
It is with sadness that I see Leo DeSorcy (April 30, “Commissioner resigns over plan to revamp Tisbury DPW”) was frustrated enough to throw in the towel. Mr. DeSorcy truly has the town taxpayers in mind.
Committees are only viable if they are diverse, with members who have experience in the field. The Department of Public Works (DPW) commission was blamed for shabby road conditions this past winter. My feelings are that when you force retirement on longstanding town employees to save the town money, you go to a workforce with little knowledge of the ins and outs of the best way to attack a situation in town. Add to that a new DPW supervisor who does not live in town and has no prior knowledge of the town, because the work force has been stepped down to save money. Mr. DeSorcy is right when he says the town is jumping into a situation, and the only plan is to set up another committee with a lot fewer years of experience, and the man who was straight-talking and had the town’s best interest in mind will not be on it. I miss Lester Baptiste and his crew of workers. They were all on the same team for the DPW and the town.
