In the Gateway Babe Ruth League, two Vineyard teams, Gray and Black, took identical records of 6-2 into a Saturday Island clash at home that ended with a 12-0 victory for the Grays.

Vineyard Black’s fireballer Michael Habekost faced off against rookie Jake Howell for Vineyard Gray. Although Michael would strike out the first two VG batters, the number three hitter Jake drove the first pitch he saw into right field for a double. Jake managed to get four hits on the day, and pitched a complete-game (six innings) no-hitter. Michael Habekost would draw a lonely walk in the sixth, but would be stranded on third as one of only two baserunners for VB.

The game saw some excellent defense and timely hitting by the Vineyard Gray on their way to a 12-0 win; however, the defensive highlight of the game was provided by VB’s Sam Cranston at second base. He made a fantastic backhand diving catch before throwing to first from one knee on a one-hop liner by Jared Regan.

In varsity action, the Vineyard Purple defeated Falmouth in both ends of a doubleheader to improve their record to 6-4. In game two, the Vineyard fought back from early 3-1 deficit to win 7-4. Sam Bresnick came on in relief of starter Aiden Aliberti to start the second inning, and shut down Falmouth with an assortment of sidewinding curveballs and off-speed pitches.
