MV Youth Soccer celebrated its Soccer Festival this past weekend with round-robin tournament matches in West Tisbury and Vineyard Haven. Many of the United U13 boys and U18 girls joined the younger rec players, assisting with matches.
On Saturday, May 30th:
MV United U12 Girls 2 – Mashpee 1
The U12 girls defeated Mashpee 2-1 in a well-played match on Saturday. Mashpee began the scoring by squeaking one in in the first half, but Ruby Reimann hammered in the equalizer by halftime. In the second half, Sarah Lytle beautifully finished the game winner on a cross from Kate Howell.
MV United U12 Boys 2 – Fall River 0
The U12 boys team played a solid match against formidable Fall River. Goals were scored by Christopher DaSilva (assisted by Eli Saunier) and Erick Miller (assisted by Lucas Reis). The two teams fought hard for the win, which included several tense moments in the second half, including Fall River hitting the post three times. Vineyard goalkeeper Nicolas DePaula earned the shutout in spectacular fashion, blocking and deflecting everything goalbound. The team moved from seventh to fifth in their division, and will face Falmouth this Saturday.
MV United U13 Boys 1 – Mariner 0
Last spring, the MV United U13 boys were bounced from the South Coast Soccer League playoffs by a strong Mariner soccer club. Saturday, Mariner traveled to the Vineyard to do battle once again. The match was evenly played for the first 10 minutes, with neither team having many scoring chances. That changed at the 11-minute mark, when Morgan Estrella stole the ball just over the center line. After a quick two touches, he fed the ball to Moushe Oliveira, who beat the Mariner keeper to give the Vineyard a 1-0 lead. After halftime, the Vineyard had several scoring chances, but could not capitalize. With eight minutes left in the game, Vineyard keeper Colby Zarba made a stellar save by deflecting a beautiful Mariner shot just up and over the crossbar. That proved to be the save that gave the Vineyard a hard-fought 1-0 win.

MV United U16 Boys 2 – Nantucket 1
The U16 Boys had two home games this past weekend. On Saturday they beat second-seeded Nantucket 2-1, knocking them to the third seed. The Vineyard are now the second seed.
