To the Editor:
A gentleman and gentle man whom I know calmly packed his groceries in front of me at checkout this summer evening at 7 pm as the tourists scurry to the market after the boat docks.
We speak. Chat a bit. “I wish I could learn to shop once a week,” I say, “instead of every day.”
His reply sends me on a journey in my mind: “Pretend you are Parisienne, fresh cheese, warm bread, every day.”
I laugh, assessing the summer visitors. “If I could just be more organized …”
“Don’t work too hard on that” is his good advice.
A sudden calm breezes over me; for real.
