The Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club will hold its 15th Klays for Kids skeet shoot at the club skeet range from 12 noon to 4 pm on Sunday, July 12 (rain or shine). The event is a benefit for the club’s many programs for youngsters, which include the Kids Trout Tournament and Camp Jabberwocky Fishing Day.
Each shooter pays a $15 entry fee, and must shoot a minimum of 50 targets. He or she may shoot as many 25-target rounds as he or she likes at $4 a round, plus ammunition, which is available. His or her two best two rounds determine the final score. Each missed target costs the shooter 25 cents or $1, depending on shooting status. Shotguns are available for shooters. All of the monies go to the kids’ programs. Regardless of a shooter’s ability, anyone can be a winner. The highest score is the Klays for Kids Champion. Other winners are Class Champions under the Lewis Class System.
The public is invited to watch, and refreshments are available. There is no charge for admission. Donations are encouraged and welcomed. Comfortable seating and free ear protection are available.
The club is located on the Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road. Turn at Third Street, go to the end, and turn right. Take your first left into the club. For additional information, call Bob DeLisle at 508-627-3019.
