To the Editor:
Why does the Wampanoag tribe always think that it can do no wrong? There are laws on the books, and it seems that this group always states that the rules do not apply to them as they are a “special group.”
They have an unfinished community center. They did not pay for the construction material, but used a grant from the federal government. Instead of just having a place to meet, they come up with an idea that we need a gaming hall. It makes little difference to this group that the Island inhabitants do not want gambling halls on the Vineyard.
Their argument is that they need income. Rather than try to obtain a gambling casino which no one wants, I suggest that they look to the employment section, where there are plenty of income positions. It is not as easy as sitting on a governing board, but it will bring in income for their needs.
