To the Editor:

The American flag is our nation’s most sacred symbol, and deserves the utmost respect, particularly for the millions of Americans who have fought, suffered, and died defending it. The U.S. Flag Code stipulates that the “flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.”

I was shocked to observe that the Edgartown Yacht Club flies its pennant above the American flag. Although the members of the Edgartown Yacht Club may believe their flag is superior to the American flag, few others do.
