I was stunned in early October when I walked from the parking lot to the beach at Lucy Vincent. How had I missed this site-specific artwork going up along the south side of the path? The bent woodwork was inviting visually, left small openings like entries to miniature sanctuaries, was/is an incredible work of art. Well, I got my answer a week ago when I ran into Martina Mastromonaco, who is responsible for creating this beautiful and functional fencing to keep the encroaching plants from overtaking the beach path. If you are interested in having Martina create bentwood fencing for you, please contact her at martinaonmv@yahoo.com.

I ran into Chilmark Fire Chief David Norton the other day. He reminded me that this year’s children’s Halloween Party will take place Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5:30 pm at the Chilmark Community Center. In fact, it was David’s mother, Katherine Norton, who started the tradition when David was a kid. If you have a hankering to help, please contact Katie Carroll at Squidrow@vineyard.net. All funds raised will go to the Chilmark Volunteer Firefighters Association, which funds holiday parties, a student scholarship fund, the Fireman’s Relief Fund, and donations for need. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, please contact Chief Norton at 508-645-2819 or chilchief@yahoo.com.
