The Martha’s Vineyard Horse Council hosted its most successful hunter pace since introducing the jumping elements five years ago, council member Tara Whiting told The Times, and raised a considerable amount for the council scholarship program. Here is her report:

“A total of 27 riders went out on a ride covering eight miles with 11 obstacles. Participants ranged in age from 10 to 65, and all came in with big smiles, having thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The weather was crisp, but the sun was strong.

“Chrissy Arenberg, Vickie Thurber, Liz Packer, and Suzanne Sprayregen assisted with jump crew. Clare Harrington worked the entry desk, while Tom Rancich and Brian Athearn manned the grill to make the potluck a huge success. There were wonderful raffle prizes donated by SBS, Vineyard Equestrian, Team Ride Safe, and the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. Many thanks to our sponsors, including Dottie’s Potties, L&W Tree Farm, Yered trailers, Lawrence Horseshoeing, and South Shore Equine Clinic. We also wish to thank Ginny Dautreuil, forest supervisor, for her continued support, the West Tisbury School for use of parking, and WTPD for the safety cones. Once again, we thank Karen Ogden, who was out to photograph.”
