With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, there is no shortage of events to keep everyone in the festive spirit of the holiday this weekend. There’s crafts and candy for the kiddies, readings and costume contests for the adults, plus festivals, parties, and spooky stories galore. This busy calendar of events will keep you packed with tricks and treats.
Thursday, Oct. 29

Be prepared to be scared. Listen to scary stories read by local actors. Hear the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Ray Bradbury, and others. For teens and adults. Not appropriate for young children. Spooky refreshments too.

Fourth annual Zombie Walk Bar Crawl

Friday, Oct. 30
Creatures of the Night
5–7pm, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Edgartown
Enjoy all things festive and nonscary at his holiday celebration which will highlight Creatures of the Night with fun for the whole family. The event will kick off with a hayride around the property at 5:15 pm. As darkness falls, you’ll get to enjoy the sanctuary at night, from a new perspective. Take a self-guided night walk, create an animal mask for trick-or-treating, and decorate a pumpkin at our BYOP (bring your own pumpkin) station. Enjoy cider and marshmallows by the fire while you take in the beautiful sounds of the sanctuary. Admission is $6 for members of Mass Audubon, and $9 for nonmembers; children under 3 are free.
6 pm, Former Marine Hospital, Vineyard Haven
Dance the Yard adapts its iconic work, “The Blue of Distance,” for a ghostly historic setting. Audience members will be led to select rooms in the Marine Hospital, each room conjuring a different section of the dance piece. Local musician Phil DaRosa provides a soundtrack, and David Stanwood plays piano. Audience members are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. Three guided performance at 6 pm, 6:45 pm, and 7:30 pm. Saturday, Oct. 31

Come in costume. Play in haunted stacks and make a spooky snack. All ages.
Natural Mystery Hunt
11am – 4 pm, Sassafras Earth Education, Aquinnah
Enjoy Halloween with nature. Costumes are welcome as long as you can run, climb, and see. For youth ages 4 and up. Four to six year olds must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a lunch, water bottle and apple for roasting. $35 for walk-in, for a youth or parent and young child.
11am – 3 pm, Kelley House, Edgartown
Edgartown’s annual Halloween festivities, including a Dance-O-Rama and spooky kids’ crafts at the Kelley House. Trick-or-treating around downtown Edgartown, annual costume contest hosted by Backwater Trading Co., and more.

Spontaneous Parade and Trick-or-Treating

A Halloween parade will start at the Flying Horses Carousel and finish at Island Images Gallery. Enjoy trick or treating at local businesses along the way. Parade will be accompanied by a giant puppet from Spindrift Marionettes.
Puppet Show and Best Mask Winners announcement
2 pm, Island Images Gallery, Oak Bluffs
Performed by Spindrift Marionettes, the family-friendly puppet show features soft, handcrafted felt and fleece table puppets.
3:30 – 5 pm, West Tisbury library, West Tisbury
Come in costume, hop on a hayride, make some crafts, and munch on some spooky refreshments.
Halloween Costume and Puppet Parade
4 pm, Main Street, Vineyard Haven
Parade starts at Mansion House and ends at the Green Room. Dress up and trick-or-treat at local shops and businesses along the way.
5 – 8pm, Vineyard Haven Library, Vineyard Haven
Take a break from trick-or-treating and enjoy cider and candy provided by the Friends of the Library.
6 – 8pm, Ag Hall, West Tisbury
Games, prizes, refreshments, and the spooky hayride! All welcome. Sponsored by West Tisbury Parks and Recreation.
6 – 8 pm, Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse
Enjoy cider and candy for the kids and coffee and tea for the parents at the “gateway” to the William Street Historic District.
Monster Mash Dancehall Event
7pm, the Yard, Chilmark
The Yard invites community members of all ages to come dance their frights away. With a DJ lurking in the dark, this dance party in the Yard’s theater is the place to bring your friends and your favorite costume (costuming is optional but encouraged). $10.

Live music with Serendipity, prizes for costumes, light snacks, and dancing. Donations appreciated.
