To the Editor:
I read with interest the article about the Vineyard Conservation Society proposal to ban plastic bags (Dec. 3, “Conservation Society asks Edgartown to support plastic bag ban”). This proposal is worthy of our consideration.
I did not find in the article any mention that Cronig’s, in an effort to encourage cloth reusable shopping bags, has not been using plastic bags for some time, and has a charge of five cents for each of the brown paper bags with handles.
Occasionally I do find myself using plastic bags, and have always appreciated the program for recycling them at the Stop and Shop. Stop and Shop also allows us to include plastic bread, vegetable, cookie, and other wrappers that we often encounter, and this is most helpful.
I was disappointed that information about these programs was not included in your article.
