Tucked within the Airport Business Park in Edgartown, across the street from FedEx and next to Vineyard Bottled Waters, is the new kid in town — a kid you’re going to want to sit with at lunch. Starlite Lounge Take-Away is led by Annie Foley, a veteran caterer who has been based out of Martha’s Vineyard for more than 20 years.

When I see new food spots open on-Island, I think to myself: “Do we really need it?” My oh my, do we really need a place like Starlite Lounge! First, the location opens new possibilities in the area, aside from Mobil Station sandwiches. Secondly, the food is unpretentious, comforting, and casual — three words we need more of in Edgartown.

It’s open Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 am until approximately 3 pm, and Ms. Foley is cooking up a storm and taking suggestions. You’ll normally find a vegetarian option, along with a daily soup, sandwich, or wrap, as well as freshly baked goods such as chocolate chip cookies and decadent brownies.

Talking to Ms. Foley, you can sense her passion. Here’s a caterer who works endless hours during the season, cooking for clients until the late hours of the night. You’d think she’d need a break during the off-season, but no, she’s thought of a way to keep busy and keep doing what she loves: cooking and baking for Islanders and visitors alike.

When I visited, a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw ($8.50) was the special, and it was delicious, served on a buttered, warmed ciabatta roll and piled high with tender, hand-shredded pork and a tangy, fresh coleslaw. A couple of cookies and brownies also came home with me, and boy was I glad they did. The chocolate chip cookies were freshly baked and still warm, with a ratio of chocolate to dough being almost 1:1. The brownies, a dense, chocolate heaven, were the perfect little treat at the end of the meal. Also available are hearty dishes like vegetarian and meat lasagna, which you can take home and heat up for dinner. A lasagna from Starlite Lounge, a loaf of bread from Black Dog Bakery, a big salad, and you’re a dinner hero!

Make sure to support this local endeavor and taste the delicious food Annie Foley is cooking up. Once you’re there, she’s open for suggestions on what you’d like to see on her menu. Recommend your favorite, and you just might see it on the menu (I recommended some delicious Indian food!). Like them on Facebook (facebook.com/Starlighttakeaway) to find daily specials.
