The Martha’s Vineyard boys indoor track team won its second dual meet of the season Monday night at Wheaton College, 65-29, over Coyle-Cassidy.
The boys dominated from the start as they swept the 300m (Nevin Wallis, Caio Protti, Nick Bonneau) and long jump (Wallis, Bonneau, and winner Tom Irwin).
Tom Irwin also was victorious in the 55m high hurdles; Nevin Wallis also won the high jump and the 600m. Perhaps the best performance of the day, however, belonged to Nate D’Angelo. After breaking 5:00 for the first time in the mile (4:58), Nate came back 45 minutes later and ran an outstanding time of 10:38 in the two-mile. His time was his personal best by 13 seconds, and qualified him for the state division meet.
The girls won every event that they were entered in, but still did not have enough events covered to score more points. Final: MV 25, Coyle 55. Olivia Smith had her best performance at Wheaton to date. Smith ran the 600m for the first time this season, and won in 1:45.3. She also won the long jump (16 feet, 9.5 in.) and the 55m high hurdles (8.8 seconds). Madison Csapo-Moreis competed in the high jump, and was the winner with a state-qualifying height of 4′ 8″. Mary McCarthy had her best race of the season, running 3:23 for her victory over Coyle in the 1,000 meters.
The boys record is 2-2. Both teams will face Somerset Berkley on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
