At the Edgartown Bridge Club on March 29, seven pairs competed. Finishing in first place were Carol Whitmarsh and Gerry Averill, followed by John O’Keefe and Ken Judson in second, and Bea Phear and Patsy O’Donovan in third.
At the Martha’s Vineyard Bridge Club in Vineyard Haven on March 1, nine pairs competed for a club championship. Finishing in first place were Bea Phear and Cecily Greenaway, followed by Michel Riel and Dave Donald in second, Barbara Besse and Carol Whitmarsh in third, and Ency and Robert Fokos in fourth.
At the Island Bridge Club in West Tisbury on March 3, seven pairs competed. First place went to Dave Donald and Rich Colter, followed by Dan and Nancy Cabot in second, and Gerry Averill and Caroline Baum in third.
Representing Martha’s Vineyard at the national bridge championships in Reno, Nev., were Dinny Dozier, Sue Collinson, Mollie Whalen, and Joe Ashcroft, playing in several team-of-four matches. The team competed in the finals of a two-day bracketed knockout on Saturday, and on Sunday they won a stratified Swiss team.
