Juniors Daniel Gaines and David Webster won third place at the William K. Richardson Patent Award at the MIT State Science Fair for their project utilizing chemicals and microbacteria to recycle Styrofoam in a zero-emission process to be used as paving material. Seven regional high school students attended the MIT fair: senior Nils Aldeborgh, juniors Daniel Gaines and David Webster, sophomores Rose Engler, Katherine Roberts, Curtis Fisher and freshman Mackenzie Condon. A prerequisite of attendance is either a first-place award at a local fair, or any place at the various regional-level fairs. The state fair displays the best of the best, and awards 100 winners from nearly 400 projects.
