Run the Chop draws record numbers

The annual Murdick’s Fudge five mile road race Run the Chop brought 609 runners to Vineyard Haven Monday morning in a Fourth of July benefit that raised $17,840 for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club and the Rotary Club.

Michael Schroeder, 21, of West Tisbury took first place with a time of 28:01, followed by Lee Greathouse of Edgartown with 28:21, and Will Swenson of Andover with 28:54. Rebecca Trachsel of Winchester came in first among women and 12th overall with a time of 32:45.

The money raised will also go towards a new race timer for the Martha’s Vineyard High School Track team.
