The Martha’s Vineyard Author Series launches this Thursday, July 21, at the Chilmark Community Center. Geraldine Brooks will speak about her biblical novel, “The Secret Chord,” at 7:30 pm. On Sunday, July 24, Matthew Desmond, Harvard sociologist and MacArthur “genius,” will speak on “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City,” about the housing crisis affecting America’s poor. On Thursday, July 28, Richard Russo will discuss his new novel, “Everybody’s Fool.” Other authors in the series include Diane Rehm, Margo Jefferson, Carly Simon, and Jane Mayer.
