Families of turkeys cross the road, deer leap through brush, skunks skedaddle under decks, wild grapes sweetly ripen on vines, beach plum and rosehips ready for picking and jam, tomatoes on sale, and fall officially has begun. The full harvest moon happens at 3:05 pm Friday, Sept. 16, and we can rejoice in the changing seasons.

Menemsha can even be the choice for a staycation: One lucky Islander treated herself to a room with a view, a respite after working too many days straight to count — Happy 50, Alison Ostreicher.

I treated myself to a hot lobster roll on Saturday night at the Menemsha Fish Market, where proprietor Stanley Larsen was pleased to have served Robert Plant, former lead singer of Led Zeppelin, earlier that day. I’m already missing the Galley being open on Saturday nights, but alas, fall is here. Breezes carry wedding music from the Beach Plum Inn and Captain Flanders House down the crick and up the hills.

Chilmark Tavern has a new signature vegan dish that looked beautiful in pictures. Glad we can all still enjoy Chilmark Store’s front porch and get takeout, or head down into Menemsha for lunch at the Galley or takeout from the Back Door — don’t forget those last fried clams from the Bite. Then keep going, get your tank filled by service with more than a smile at the Texaco station, go to Menemsha Fish Market or Larsen’s and pick up some fresh fish, or get it cooked and stay awhile. Maybe you’ll be lucky, like I was a week ago, happening upon a back porch concert with Geordie Gude and a super-talented bunch of folks on guitars, mouth harp, and a blond singer bouncing her baby in her arms.

Liz Koch, author of “The Psoas Book,” is offering a 12-hour Psoas Workshop at the Chilmark Community Center from Friday, Sept. 16 to Sunday, Sept. 18. The three-day-long weekend workshop is for everybody, and offers a great way to learn through experience how your psoas affects skeletal integrity, joint rotation, muscular tension, breathing, emotional expression, and organ functioning. A healthy psoas facilitates healing, movement, and fitness while reducing overall stress. It is a vital step toward resolving trauma. For more information, see coreawareness.com.

Come hear Island stone carver Adrian Smith along with Sweta Gurung, both of Himalayan Crossroads, speak and present a slideshow: “Nepal: The Earthquake, Relief Work, and the Road Ahead” at the West Tisbury library on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 4 pm. Learn about relief efforts following Nepal’s earthquake in April 2015.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 7 pm, the first of three facilitated workshops that will shape the future of affordable and community housing for our year-round workforce, elderly families, and children will be held for Chilmark residents at the Chilmark library. The selectmen, planning boards and housing committees of all six towns are working to create housing production plans to help address the Island’s housing needs. How can we meet the current and future needs for housing, while preserving the character and values of the town? This is one of the most significant issues facing our town. Please join us. To learn more about the planning process see bit.ly/chilmarkhousingplan. The second and third workshops will be held on Wednesdays, Nov. 16 and Dec. 14.

Native Earth Teaching Farm has ongoing programs, so check their website nativeearthteachingfarm.org. Also enjoy the splendor of our local farms’ produce, meats, cheeses, flours, and more at their stands: the Crossroads, Grey Barn and Farm (still open for tours and cheese tasting; see thegreybarnandfarm.com), Mermaid Farm, and North Tabor Farm, or head to the Saturday Farmers Market at the Grange.

Have a good week.
