To the Editor:
In an article in the Dec. 29 MV Times titled “Oak Bluffs selectmen appoint selectman Gail Barmakian to the MVC,” the process of making the appointment was thoroughly described. However, I would like to clarify that while selectmen stated that I had dropped out of consideration for being the Oak Bluffs appointee to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission (MVC), the facts indicate otherwise. Before the BOS meeting to discuss the appointment, I was informed by a selectman that John Breckenridge had been reappointed. Consequently, I did not attend the meeting.
After I was informed at the next MVC meeting that Mr. Breckenridge had dropped out, I immediately sent a second letter of interest to the board of selectmen the following day. Therefore, I believe, voters should be aware that there existed two candidates for the position, Gail Barmakian and myself. The decision to select Ms. Barmakian was not due to a lack of candidates, but rather a conscious decision on the part of the selectmen.
