A Dukes County Superior Court jury will begin hearing testimony Tuesday morning in the trial of Carlos G. Stevenson, who is accused of child rape.

Stevenson, owner of Mosher Photo in Vineyard Haven, is charged with rape of a child with force and five counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. The allegations are from incidents that date back to 2001.

Jury selection, which began Tuesday, was completed on Wednesday, according to staff in the Superior Court clerk’s office.

Stevenson was released on $9,000 bail at the time of his indictment in 2014.

According to Times archives, the indictments against Stevenson were upheld last year by the Supreme Judicial Court. A Superior Court judge had dismissed the charges against Stevenson in May of 2015 because the alleged victim did not testify before the Grand Jury. The SJC ruling found that the victim was not required to testify and that a police detective was able to articulate the facts of the case clearly for jurors.

The alleged assaults began when the victim was 10 years old and continued for several years.

Mr. Stevenson has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
