To the Editor:
So, Edgartown has voted to expand the dump [Article 30]. The joke’s on us: The dump has already expanded — it includes the length of West Tisbury Road, both sides, both directions. The roadside trash is obvious from your 45 mph vehicle, but to really appreciate its range and variety, take a walk.
Will an expanded, state-of-the-art dump stop the outright littering, or the blow-off from unsecured loads? Not likely, but maybe there’s a way the Martha’s Vineyard Refuse Disposal and Resource Recovery District and the towns could work together to make this happen. We should do it for ourselves — but also, we have company coming, by the thousands. Time to clean up.
