On Saturday, May 6, from 10 am to 12 pm, the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard is hosting Healthy Kids Day, an annual national initiative and free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active, and to improve health and well-being for kids and families.

According to a press release, when a child is healthy, happy, motivated, and excited, amazing things are bound to happen. Healthy Kids Day is a reminder not to let children idle away their summer days, but instead focus on physical and mental play. This year, Healthy Kids Day is on Kentucky Derby Day, and there will be lots of activities, including pool-noodle horse racing, decorating Derby hats, kid-friendly mint julep snowcones and healthy horseshoe bars, in addition to annual favorites like obstacle courses for kids and wee ones, a clown parade, tie-dying, face painting, temporary tattoos, and other things to inspire families to develop healthy routines at home. For more information, contact YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard at 508-696-7171, ext. 107 or 104, or visit ymcamv.org.
