The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School sailing team took to the waters of Annapolis last Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Phebe King fleet races. The team came in 16th out of 18 teams.

The inaugural Spring Intersectional for the Phebe King Memorial Trophy Regatta was held in Annapolis, Md., co-hosted by Annapolis Yacht Club and the Severn Sailing Association. The Phebe King races are run in conjunction with the Mallory sailing regatta, which takes place in Boston.

Coach Andrew Burr said the team competed well, but he was focused on their gaining competitive experience.

“This year we have two young skippers who are freshman, so the more time they can spend on the water with some good competition, the better they’re going to be,” Coach Burr said.

The team races in the Cape and Islands Women’s Fleet Racing Invitational in Nantucket on Friday. Next week, they will be racing in a coed Cape and Islands competition, which will complete their 2017 season.
