The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center and Not Your Sugar Mamas collaborate on Thursday, May 18, for the 7:30 pm screening of “What the Health,” a follow-up film from the creators of the documentary “Cowspiracy.” The dinner-and-a-movie event means 10 percent off menu items at neighboring Not Your Sugar Mamas before the movie.

The Film Center’s description of the documentary notes that it follows filmmaker Kip Andersen “as he uncovers the secret to preventing and even reversing chronic diseases — and investigates why the nation’s leading health organizations don’t want us to know about it. With heart disease and cancer the leading causes of death in America, and diabetes at an all-time high, the film reveals possibly the largest health cover-up of our time.”

Audiences will learn the roles played by pharmaceutical companies, agribusiness, and processed animal food companies in the nation’s health, especially in the most vulnerable communities. The Film Center’s website says that “What the Health” is a surprising and sometimes hilarious investigative documentary, which promises to be an eye-opener for everyone concerned about the nation’s health and how big business influences it.

General admission is $12, or $9 for members; $7 for children 14 or younger. Doors open 30 minutes before screening. Visit mvfilmsociety.com for more information.
