Photographer Peter Simon will talk about and show slides from his new book “Martha’s Vineyard — To Everything There Is a Season” at the Chilmark Public Library on Wednesday, July 5, at 5 pm. The coffee table book contains more than 700 photographs that cover Island life through the seasons. It highlights favorite landscapes, annual events, and Island faces. Text is by Pulitzer prizewinning author Geraldine Brooks, with an introduction by music writer Stephen Davis.

Over the course of his 50-year career, Mr. Simon has photographed the greatest names in rock ’n’ roll, reggae, and pop music, documented the 1960s free love and protest, and captured the action of major league baseball and the beauty of Martha’s Vineyard.

His photographs have been published in many magazines and newspapers, including Time, Newsweek, People, Village Voice, Atlantic Monthly, Cape Cod Life, Boston Magazine, New York Magazine, the New York Times, and Rolling Stone.

Mr. Simon is the author of 13 books, and recently released a DVD titled “Through the Lens — Celebrating 50 Years of Personalized Photojournalism.” This unique work is part history, part memoir as he continues to discuss the personal choices and paths taken in life.

Mr. Simon will be selling copies of his book after the talk. Twenty percent of the proceeds benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Admission is free. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Chilmark Public Library. For more information, call 508-645-3360.
