Criticism was misdirected

To the Editor:

Many thanks to The MV Times for bringing the serious safety deficiencies to light in Menemsha Harbor (July 27, “Missing fire extinguishers”). With regard to the quote by Selectman Malkin, I am “astonished and disappointed” by the comments attributed to him in the article.  Instead of committing to immediately fix these issues, he criticizes the person who brought attention to them. Given the fact that the these deficiencies have gone on for a least a year, it would not surprise me that maybe this person did notify one or more of the entities that Mr. Malkin mentions, but they were ignored. The criticism should be directed at those responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the harbor.
