To the Editor:
I had occasion to attend the Oak Bluffs town meeting Tuesday. I was very impressed by the board of selectmen and other town officials, and I learned a lot.
On the contrary, I was shocked by the discord that currently exists between the call firefighters and the regular firefighters. The animosity between the two groups, who should be working together in harmony, was palpable. If the show of discord that occurred in the library parking lot after the meeting is any indication of how the fire department functions, it should be an embarrassment to the fire chief and the town officials who allow this conduct to be perpetuated.
It appears we are in month 13 of an escalating battle between the fire chief and the firemen’s union. The townspeople deserve better. Please fix this.
