Holy shiitake!

A handful of fully grown armillaria, or honey mushrooms. — Sam Moore

On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Polly Hill Arboretum in West Tisbury hosts a workshop on mushroom cultivation. Growing edible mushrooms on oak logs is easy and environmentally friendly, and the arboretum will show you how shiitake and reishi mushroom spawn. Learn about the biology and process for each of these two species, and bring home your own inoculated log and instructions for caring for your crop. Horticulturist Oliver Osnoss will lead the hands-on workshop from 10 am to 2 pm. We hear he’s a pretty fungi. $50 for PHA members, $65 for nonmembers.
