Chris Bird, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of luxury hospitality experience, has been appointed general manager of Harbor View Hotel. According to a press release, this winter, the Martha’s Vineyard hotel will undergo an extensive renovation and will re-open for spring 2019.
“This is an exciting time for Harbor View Hotel, and we are confident that Chris, with his strong operational background and passion for excellent guest service, is the right leader to usher our hotel and team through this transition and into the future,” said owner Bernard Chiu, whose Upland Capital Corporation acquired the hotel in early 2018.
“Harbor View Hotel has been a cherished part of a Vineyard visit for well over a century” said Bird, “and I’m honored to have the opportunity to help steer its future path — one that maintains its legacy while enhancing the guest experience for future generations.”
Bird joins Harbor View Hotel from Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. In his role as director of operations, then general manager, he oversaw all operations of the 2,000-acre property. Among other achievements, he directed the reopening of its Washington Townhome property and raised service levels throughout its three distinct resort products.
Bird’s career has spanned some of the most prestigious resorts and spas in the U.S. He was previously general manager of Lake Austin Spa Resort in Texas and, for seven years prior, the exclusive Mii amo, a destination spa at Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Arizona. He has served as director of operations for The Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona and assistant hotel director for Canyon Ranch Lenox in Massachusetts. As executive assistant manager of Lake Placid’s Whiteface Lodge from 2005 to 2006, Bird directed the new, mid-luxury resort and private residence club’s elevation to a AAA Four Diamond luxury resort with excellent guest service.
