Work expected to begin on Meetinghouse Way

Pole work on Meetinghouse Way expected to continue within a week.

Work is expected to begin on several utility poles along Meetinghouse Way in Edgartown.

At the weekly selectmen’s meeting Monday, Meetinghouse Way resident Janice Casey asked the town for an update on when many of the road’s poles would be pushed back. The road was completely paved over in July, but many of the utility poles jut out into the road, causing a safety concern among drivers.

Town administrator James Hagerty told Casey the project has been a concentrated effort between the town, police, highway department, and state Rep. Dylan Fernandes. The project had been slow moving until Hagerty spoke with Fernandes on Saturday. Fernandes contacted Eversource, who in turn updated the town.

Eversource, who is in charge of the poles, has had difficulty getting the necessary crews on-Island. The company has also been occupied with storm issues and recovery in the past few weeks.

In other business, the 37th Christmas in Edgartown will be on Dec. 6, 7, 8, 9. Hy-Line Cruises and now SeaStreak will be running trips for the holiday festivities. Hy-Line will be operating special Christmas in Edgartown ferries from Hyannis to Edgartown. SeaStreak will also run two special trips a day from New Bedford to Edgartown.
