As the issue of radar interference from wind turbines undergoes greater public scrutiny, Bay State Wind, the Eversource-Orsted wind energy venture, is examining what may be a potential hazard for marine, air, and military traffic.
“Bay State Wind is in the process of evaluating civilian and military radar systems in proximity to our lease area off the coast of Massachusetts to determine any potential interference with these systems,” Eversource spokesman Michael Durand wrote in an email. “We have initiated consultations with the FAA [Federal Aviation Administration] and DoD [U.S. Department of Defense] to determine the additional analyses that may be required to evaluate our project’s potential effect on radar systems. We’ll provide additional information in our Construction and Operation Plan, which we expect to submit to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in February.”
