Tuesday’s snowy weather — the Island’s first substantial snowfall of the winter — contributed to a one-car crash on Barnes Road directly across from the entrance to the airport business park.
A white Hyundai sedan hit a fence after swerving off the road. Edgartown fire and police were on the scene. The driver did not sustain any injuries and was not sent to the hospital.
There were other reports of car crashes and spin outs heard over the newsroom scanner.
On Main Street in Vineyard Haven a truck could be seen spraying salt brine on the slick road surface. A sign on the vehicle urges vehicles to stay back 100 feet.
At a recent meeting, a town official said cars should steer clear of the salt brine because it is bad for cars.
Children, dismissed early from school, could be seen out playing in the snow and catching flakes on their tongues.
